Peter is One month old!

I can't believe it's already been one month since Peter was born. And yet I sometimes feel surprised that it's only been one month! It has been a very good month, too. I feel so blessed that Brad was able to take a full week off of work and then was able to be quite flexible and home a lot for the next while; my mom came out for a little over a week and was so helpful and her company alone was reassuring to me; my dad also came out for a short weekend while mom was here; Brad's dad baptized Peter the weekend both of my parents were here. This last week Brad had to go to some meetings in Michigan so I got to spend a few days on my own but everything went alright.

Here's how Peter is at 1 month:
Weight: unofficially 12 lbs (with clothes and diaper)
Height: unofficially 24 inches
Clothing size: 0-3 months
Schedule/Routine: Every day is different but he is eating every 2.5-3 hours around the clock. Occasionally at night he will get one stretch of 4 or 5 hours between feedings...hopefully that will become more regular soon! He sleeps almost all day when he's not eating and has one period between feedings when he stays awake. He falls asleep easily anywhere but his crib during the day but seems to particularly like being held during his late evening nap time. Usually he sleeps fine in his crib at night...just doesn't fall asleep there easily during the day right now.
Milestones: This week we noticed he is tracking things with his eyes rather than just staring off at a light or nothingness. He follows our faces and looks with interest at his crib mobile.
Other: Peter is a noisy child! Not a crier, but a grunter. He grunts and groans whether awake or asleep. I don't remember Cora making this much or these kinds of noises. He does not fuss much and rarely cries at this point. He seems to need to extra comfort of his pacifier only in the evening. Did I mention how adorable he is? Oh, and his umbilical cord stump finally came off at almost 3 weeks of age so we started using the cloth diapers after that. We have a mix of prefolds with Thirsties covers, some small-sized pocket diapers, and some one-size adjustable pocket diapers. I'm very impressed with the prefolds - no leaks or blowouts. The small pockets I made and they are good during the day but not great for containing poo. And the Rumparooz and BumGenius one-size pocket diapers have been great. I'm learning that the advantage to having a small diaper stash is that, although I have to wash more frequently, it only takes 5 minutes to fold and put away the diapers so it isn't an overwhelming task.

On to Cora!! My dear little girl...She has been a real trooper through this transition. She seems at times more clingy to mommy and tries to claim a spot on my lap when Peter is nursing. She sometimes pretends she is a baby and says "waa, waaa, waaa" and points at what she wants. I play along and say "Baby Cora, I don't know what you want" and start guessing. It makes her giggle and she quickly she remembers how nice it is to be able to talk. :) She mostly doesn't pay much attention to Peter, but asks to help change his diaper, to give him his pacifier or play his mobile for him. She likes to put her dollies in his car seat or swing when he's not in it. I hope this doesn't embarrass anyone but I think it's quite funny: One time while Peter was nursing Cora came to me and asked "Can I eat your nipple?" She's having to learn that somethings are for babies only...

Sadly we've misplaced the usb cable to our camera so picture updates may be delayed...And it's already been 3 hours since Pete's last meal and he's waking up to eat again. More to come...
