Peter is two months old today. I still have that confused feeling of "Has it only been two months?" and at the same time "Has it been two months already?" This was a busy month. Brad returned from a work trip to Michigan on his one-month birthday and then had an all-nighter with the middle school youth group. I chose not to go - Why deprive myself of more sleep on purpose, right? The next weekend we took a family getaway to our friends' condo in Copper Mountain. We just relaxed and enjoyed being together without the pressure of having to run errands or get work done like we would feel at home. The next week Brad left to go hunting and my sister, Deb, and my 15-month old nephew Leyton, came to spend the week with Cora, Peter and I. As you can tell from my previous post it was awesome having them here. I think Brad had a good time hunting, too.
Two months:
Weight: unofficially 14.5 lbs
Height: need to check
Clothing size: 0-3 months (but some are too small) and 3-6 months (but some are still too big)
Schedule/Routine: We follow more of a routine than a strict schedule. He's eating about every 3-4 hours during the day. He takes two longer naps during the day then a short cat-nap in the evening. He is awake most of the late evening until his last feeding around 10 pm when he goes to sleep for the night!
Milestones: First smiles were on November 8 (about 7 weeks old). Started sleeping 7-8 hours at night on November 15 (about 8 weeks old).Yay!! He's also holding his head up like a champ. He's really getting strong. He's also just starting to find his fingers (the last few days) and tries to suck on them. We may have another thumb-sucker on our hands.
Other: Last month I wrote how he didn't fall asleep easily in his crib but that is getting better. I swaddle him, darken the room and then rock with him for a few minutes and then put him in his crib. This works pretty well for him. Sometimes I have to go back in and pat him and give him his pacifier but he's been really nice to me about this! He's got a pretty mellow temperment for which I'm very thankful! Hopefully next month I can report that he's going to bed earlier in the evening...and still sleeping through the night! One can always hope, right?
Maybe you don't know this about Cora: She still loves books as much as she ever did! Last night we were at friends' house and they brought out a pile of kids story books. Cora sat and looked at them for an hour! She also loves movies - she asks to watch a movie at least 3 times a day. We try to keep movies (we don't have cable or PBS so TV isn't an option) to an every other day activity or so. It's a great tool on mornings when Brad is gone and I need to shower. It's pretty much a guarentee that if I put a movie on for Cora, take a shower and come back to check on her she hasn't moved an inch. Cora also has a vivid, active imagination. Anything can become people for her who carry on coversations and exciting adventures (usually running away from lions). For example, lately we have to remind her at mealtimes that she needs to eat first and not play at the table, because she starts dancing her silverware around like Cinderella and the prince at the ball instead of eating her food. Why? is a word I would be so happy to not hear for one whole day. Need I say more?
