This weekend we went up to our friends' (Jer and Val) property in the mountains above Creed, CO. They are building a shed with living space and hope to build a log cabin in the future. We were up there with a group of 7 adults and 3 children. The four men and Val (since it's her place and she doesn't have kids to watch) worked on raising the walls and roof. Jessica, the other wife, and I tended camp with the kiddos, made meals, etc. This was the last camping trip of the year for us. We've been able to get out a bit this summer and even though it's a little extra work with a baby I'm always glad we make the effort. Click here to see pictures from our work trip...and Cora of course. Yesterday Cora learned how to say "ba" and says it all the time now. (She still blows raspberries in between the "ba"s.) She woke up this morning and laid in her crib saying "ba, ba, ba" for a few minutes! It's so very cute! Now we're working on geetting her to say "ma" and "da" - two very crucial syllables.
I loved the pictures from the weekend - it makes me want to come visit you again in CO (definitely an option!)
ReplyDeleteOh, the video isn't working. I tried to find it on youtube.com too but couldn't. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHere's a really big hint on "ma" and "da." "Da" is easy, and usually comes first, which is so sad for "Ma-ma!"
ReplyDeleteTake Cora's hand and put it on your throat while you say "mmmmmmmAA!" She will feel the vibration and think it's funny! Then do it again only this time put her hand on your lips. Rinse and repeat.
"Da" and "ma" are very different sounds--"da" is active while "ma" is very passive. The only action in "m" is the vibration...show her where it is...This is something used to teach the sound to deaf children--I learned it from a friend whose daughter was born deaf. So it's not cheating...
It looks like so much fun! Like the good ole days of pioneering and barn-raising. Do you see why the west is so cool now;)?
