New addition

This is our new Cocker Spaniel puppy!!! He's currently 8 weeks old and still with his parents and brothers until this weekend.

Now, just because you maybe haven't heard us talking about getting a dog, don't go thinking this was some crazy spontaneous decision. We've been doing lots of research and discussing what we want and don't want in a pet and even ventured into the possibility of a cat - GASP! (That was short-lived. No offense to our cat-loving friends!) Brad and I feel like a Cocker Spaniel meets both of our ideals for a pet and we hope we've found a good match for our family and lifestyle! We know it's a big undertaking and we're excited to get our puppy home and getting to know each other.

We've only known one Cocker before: Coda VerVelde in Bellflower! So it's a new adventure in the breed area also. We hope that the size and energy demands will fit where we're at in life. One new thing for us will be having to have the dog groomed a few times a year and he still may shed a bit. But even when full grown he will be easier to take traveling/camping than a larger dog, and he'll still be able to romp around in the wilderness with us and can withstand cold weather. Supposedly, Cockers are very intelligent...so we'll see how training goes!

I hope it doesn't seem cold that I'm calling him "the dog". We haven't totally decided on a name yet so I don't want to put a name out there until we've finalized it!

I think we're going to have a lot of fun in the next couple months. All four of us will have a lot of learning and adjusting to do, but we know the joy of having a canine companion and it will all be worth it!

  2. AH!!!!!!! That's so exciting Kris and Brad! Oh what fun to see Cora interact with a puppy and that she'll grow up with him! (Glad you got a boy - it's hard for me to call dogs "she/him" just b/c of what we've had). Your dog is ADORABLE!! Please take lots of puppy pictures b/c they grow so fast and that cuteness is never the same! Have fun this weekend!
