Puppy in the House

(Scroll down for link to pictures)
Mother's Day was a little bit unique this year. After church we had a wonderful dinner with Mom and Dad B. to celebrate Mom's Day and then went home to put Cora down for her nap. Mom and Dad stayed at the house while we went to pick up Zeke. He's not a mothers' day present; it just happened to work out best to get him on Sunday.

When Cora woke up and saw a dog in her house, it was like Christmas morning! She was infatuated from the start. Cora is intrigued with everything puppy: puppy toys, puppy cage, puppy food, puppy water, puppy leash, and puppy himself. It's honestly been so fun seeing her interaction with Zeke. She's not at all intimidated and maybe even a little too bold. We have to make sure she leaves him alone when he's sleeping so that he at least gets a break from her constant attention.

Her other infatuation lately is birds! She sees a bird fly by or land on the bird feeder and instantly notices, pointing and saying "Bir!" And whenever she notices birds chirping, even if they can't be seen, she points and says "Bir!" It was cute at first, but now she points out EVERY bird she sees and hears. Well, it's still sweet. I tire of hearing myself saying about 100 times a day "Yes, Cora, there's a bird! It's eating." Or "Oh, did you hear a bird? What does a bird say? Chirp Chirp!" And she says "ch, ch". Brad and I often look at each other and just shake our heads in amazement at how fast she learns new things! Cora has recently started saying "shhh" and putting her finger to her mouth - mostly to say that the puppy is sleeping; and she says "nigh, nigh" (night, night) before going to bed!

Anyway, we're having a huge learning curve with Zeke. The first night he cried about three times (not for long) and didn't soil his bed all night! So we were pretty optimistic yesterday. The second night (last night) he cried and whined incessantly and didn't keep his bed clean. Honestly, it was a miserable night. Today we really focused on helping him learn that his crate is a good, safe place to be.

Tomorrow I need to buy more paper towel. We used a lot today, cleaning up after Zeke...
Here are some Miscellaneous May pictures.

  1. Oh dear - hopefully it gets better soon. Yeah those paper towels don't last long! I couldn't figure out how to comment on "attack kisses" so I'll just say it here - HOW ADORABLE!! I love those big belly laughs from Cora - how precious!

  3. Good luck with the puppy training! :)I had no idea how much work and how challenging a puppy could be until the advent of Bishop last fall. (It must be worth it, because I've agreed to house two more large canines for the summer. But I miss my sleep already! Oh, and you can see pix of them all on my flickr page, http://www.flickr.com/photos/93532437@N00/.
